Preparing for the Ironworker Trade

Preparing for the Ironworker Trade provides practice with three Essential Skills: Reading Text, Document Use and Numeracy. This publication is divided into three sections. Section 1 reviews math foundations including fractions, decimals, perimeter, area, volume, Pythagorean Theorem and trigonometry. Section 2 provides a strategy and practice for solving word problems. Section 3 has problem sets which reflect the technical training requirements of apprentices. An answer key is provided at the end of each section. This publication does not require specific background knowledge about the ironworker trade.

This publication will help individuals prepare for writing Ironworker Trades Assessments. It is also appropriate for individuals who want to practice their Essential Skills while preparing for technical training in one of the construction trades. Individuals who are thinking about apprenticeship in the construction industry will learn about some of the reading text, document use and numeracy skills required by apprentices in construction trades.
